Bush - urgh -

Bush brushed off the recent shoe-pummelling he got saying "All I can report is it is a size 10” and hailing it as an expression of democracy in Iraq - moron.

I once laughed at 'Bushisms' in my rather Guardian-ista patronising way. I now bear a bitter resentment, finding them mildly insulting.

I don't think that's a stupid thing to say. What did you expect him to do - cry?

of course it's a stupid thing for him to say it perfectly incapsulates his dangerous lack of understanding about a society which he has continually mismananged since the Iraq war and thus increased the security threat to the western world which he had intended to tackle

jeez he was obviously making a joke. i don't like bush at all but he's not going to say "i'm a war criminal" is he?

yeh and it showed how little he knows about Arab society where the shoe (as bizzare as it may appear) represents one of the highest insults.

As for the democracy comment that merely shows his dilusion that the people of Iraq have embraced democracy - for many it remains synonymous with American occupation. Something that he caused by his total refusal to work with established elites (such as the tirbal cheifs that hold sway in iraq) who would have worked with the new regime had they not been rebuffed by the American executive who see their own democracy as the only valid one and reject any other forms no matter how well they work (i know you'll disagree on this point but the UK reatins its democratic status despite apprently 'undemocratc' [although i wouldn't necessarily describe them so] institutions of the House of Lords and the Monarchy)

whatevs. i am aware of this, i just think he was making a light-hearted joke. his handling of Iraq can be separated from him having a shoe thrown at him.
